Here are a few photographs of Rye Bonfire which was held on the 8th November 2003 and for 'RYE FAWKES' the Society enlisted the help of the lead singer and founder of the sixties group 'The Crazy World of Arthur Brown'. Yes Arthur Brown bought his 1968 hit 'FIRE' to life by lighting the Bonfire. Below are a few pictures of the procession and the man himself 'Arthur Brown'. |

I have recently had the pleasure of obtaining some new books based in and around Rye. The first is by Jim Pilcher, called Pilchers Progress and it is based on his memories. The second is a walk around Rye from a different aspect by Clifford Bloomfield. The third is a charitable book based on Rye in Bloom. All these publications are available at our local book shops.

Below are a few photographs of Rye taken from
the fields surrounding the town.

I have just purchased the below engraving from
a local shop and I did a little research on it and have found that
it is attributed to a Edward Dalziel. He along with his brother did
a lot of work with engravings as they were leading Victorian wood
engravers. He might not have done the original but he certainly made
the block for this one and I am happy to display this excellent picture.

Whilst looking through some of my photo's I came
across this one which shows the old Flag and this picture was used
by the Bonfire Society to obtain a new Cinque Ports Flag which was
donated to the then Mayor of Rye Jo Kirkham

Each of the Cinque Ports has their own flag and
unique colours as you can see Rye's is a green background with the
three lions and ships joined.

At the weekend I found this map of the Marshes
which surround Rye. It also shows how vulnerable Rye was to the sea.
With all the talk of global warming I wonder if in years to come if
the coast will revert back to this.

RYE BONFIRE 2005 This year it was 400 years of the Gunpowder Plot and here are the pictures from Rye's Bonfire celebrations. The Procession was excellent the Fire went up a treat and the fireworks were superb and Rye Fawkes was a person in a 'OWL' costume.
