Bodmin in Rye Station The Steam Train Bodmin Bodmin

These are pictures of the West Country Class Steam Train "BODMIN". This steam train passed through Rye on one of its trips around the south of England and was welcomed in all the stations which it stopped at.

 

Excelsior Excelsior

The above pictures are of the Barge Excelsior she is a frequent visitor from her home port of Lowestoft. She is of a design which was used by the Rye boat builders.

 

Jousting on the Salts  Medieval Fayre

The pictures here are from the earlier Medieval Fayre which was hosted on the Salts.

Rye Carnival Queen

This is a picture from the time when Rye had a Summer Carnival run by the local Round Table. This unfortunately has gone into decline along with the other events which used to take part in the Town.

1st Place  2nd&3rd  12th place

These are from the 2001 raft race an event which is put on annually by The Rye & District Lions. It is run on the River Rother from Scotts Float to the Monk Bretton Bridge. These pictures are at the finishing line.

 

An Exploding Firework  Town Crier with Drummers  Scorcher the Green Dragon 

The closing stages of Rye Festival 2001 Rye Bonfire Society was very prominent in these events with a finale of music and fireworks in attendance were the drums of the Hastings Borough Bonfire Society and the Rye Bonfire Society's Scorcher  the Green  Dragon.

An Angel An Angel

Whilst I was out walking on Saturday 27/10/2001 I saw this excellent sculpture of an angel opposite the Baptist Church on the old Central Garage.

Today we had the Queens Golden Jubilee Celebrations in Rye and below are some pictures of Market Street and of the Street Market and some events which took place. I also purchased a picture whilst I was there of Market Street in 1914.

This week I saw an event which seems to ring the death knell on the Rye Livestock Market. The pens which held the sheep and the weighing area were removed. Over the years I took a few photographs and I have added them below and a modern one with no pens.
